Barrnon’s site in Appleby-in-Westmoreland, Cumbria, hosts several testing facilities to simulate predicted environments. The purpose-built heated offsite test facility (OSTF) accurately represents key features of a Sellafield cell’s size and utilities. The OSTF has been made laser safe to d EN60825-4 (Safety of Laser Products Part 4 – Laser Guards) to enable a range of operational tests for laser cutting using an ROV can occur.

The OSTF incorporates a replica concrete corner (2 walls and the floor) of a NRS Dounreay’s Pond for full Scabbler testing and personnel training. The OSTF is comprised of a testing tower developed for the testing of the Mechanical Waste Gathering System (MWGS) as a reproduction of the size and scale of a Hanford Tank for Washington River Protection Services. The OSTF and Tower have the capabilities to operate machinery fully remotely from a control centre in the adjacent office.

Also, Barrnon’s site hosts a large underwater facility (20m x 7m x 4m) previously used for testing the Bladecutter before deployment into Hunterston A. Each of Barrnon’s test facilities are capable of being adapted and modified to suit a particular set of tests.

If you need further confidence and require rigorous testing for your application, reach out to Barrnon to discuss your needs.
