Learning More About Barrnon

One of Britain’s biggest fastest-growing nuclear engineering companies has been educating more than 200 people about its enhanced product range.

Barrnon went to the DDP Innovation Day at West Lakes Science Park in September, showcasing technology developments and collaborations between supply chains, SMEs and Universities. It showed off its BLISSS and BIDS prototypes – along with a real-life demonstration of its Waste Handling Vehicle. Chief Technology Officer George Sewell gave a presentation to a packed crowd. He said: “It was great to see so many people interested in the future of nuclear decommissioning and how we are driving change in an industry where some remain reluctant to support fresh thinking and back SMEs. We have some incredible products in the pipe and we are confident we can help all nuclear companies with their decommissioning aspirations.”

Over 25 companies and universities exhibited at the Cambrian event, with visitors from supply chain partners and Sellafield in attendance. Barrnon showcased its new BIDS technology bringing the Waste Handling Vehicle which is being developed for decommissioning legacy facilities in Sellafield as part of the IIND project. The hardware drew many interested attendees to the Barrnon stand where they could find out more about the innovative control technologies that underpin the BIDS system including virtual reality and digital twins.

“Attendees were also able to discover that Barrnon is not only able to develop software and complex robotics projects but also the way that an integrated approach allows design development and manufacture of large-scale nuclear fabrications on the same site,” added George.
