The Simple DCC is a high-integrity concrete self-shielded IP2 transport container, suited to intermediate and low-level waste containment and storage. The container is scale-able and customizable with standard designs available for dry or wet waste. The container is designed to reduce the cost of decommissioning and waste storage, both financial and environmental. Price point £15 – 25k per unit depending on features and quantities, with a minimum order quantity of 100 units.

TC05 shielded waste boxes are an intermediate level waste (ILW) storage solution for the short-term storage of ILW. These are fabricated and delivered to SLM 4.06.02 Quality Grade 2. The solution takes a standard 1/3 size IP rated ISO container that is used for low level waste (LLW). Barrnon build a 70mm thick steel box that fits inside the ISO container within a wood cradle that allows it to pass site transport regulations. The 70mm shielding is a welded assembly the welding is carried out in house by Barrnon to the nuclear specifications outlined in the contract. To achieve the weld quality and efficiency required, Barrnon built large hydraulic jigs to enable the welding to be carried out in the best orientations without needing multiple crane lifts throughout the build.
Barrnon developed this solution with AtkinsRéalis and has so far delivered a total of 50 boxes in two batches. The most recent batch completed in 2022 was 100% right first time with zero concessions.
